How long have you been an EWPBF member? Since September 28, 2017

Why did you choose this organization? The Mission Statement of Executive Women of the Palm Beaches is: Empowering women to succeed and lead.  That mission is quite important to meWhen I first began practicing law, and through much of my legal career, litigation was very much a man’s world.  Being a female, and “vertically challenged” I had to fight to have my voice heard both in the courtroom and at the negotiation table.  Although society has changed since then, we still have a way to go.  My own daughter requested to attend an all-girl high school so that she could pursue her passion of a career in science without being ridiculed by the boys in her class.

What are your goals as an EWPBF member? My interest is in building a strong social and professional network of women who seek to be the best in their careers.

What challenges have you faced? While I have faced numerous professional challenges, my most profound challenge has been the diagnosis of my 4 year old daughter with cancer and her subsequent death.  No words can describe the devastation felt by the parent of a deceased child.  I knew that her death would change me but wasn’t prepared for how profound that change would be.  However, that experience opened doors that I didn’t know existed. I was offered a position representing the legal interests of children in foster care – A world brand new to me.  In the 15 years I was Guardian Ad Litem I became the “go-to” person in our county for all legal issues relating to child welfare.  A strong advocate for the best interest and welfare of the children I represented, I was counsel in noteworthy cases, one of which was nationally reported.  In 2015 I accepted my current position as Development Associate for Pediatric Oncology Support Team, a local non-profit which provides counseling and support to local families who have a child diagnosed with cancer.  Now my life’s mission, and passion, is to advocate for these children and their families.

As a new member, what can you bring to EWPBF? In addition to my 30+ years of business experience, I bring a desire and commitment to give back to the community.

Are there any EWPBF events coming up you’re excited to attend? I am very much looking forward to the January, 2018 event featuring Debbie Bornstein Holinstat. As a young survivor of Auschwitz, she must have possessed, and I’m sure still possesses, inner strength and desire to survive.

Is there a specific memorable moment that stands out to you during your time with EWPBF that made you think, “this is why I joined this organization”? Since I am so new to Executive Women of the Palm Beaches, my experiences have been limited.  However, I had a fantastic time at the Astronaut exhibit. (Thanks, Michele!)  That gave me the opportunity to see our professional women in a social setting

Is there anything else you’d like to add? I have found it personally rewarding to fundraise for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society by participating in Team In Training endurance events.  I completed two century (100 mile) cycling events, two full marathons, and two half marathons as a member of Eastern Pennsylvania Team In Training, while raising money for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Even though I am no longer participating in Team In Training events, I still enjoy endurance events.  I ran the Dublin, Ireland Half Marathon this past August and am registered to run the New Orleans Half Marathon on February 28, 2018.

How long have you been an EWPBF member? Since 2009

Why did you choose this organization? I was introduced to EWPB by my sister, who was a member at the time.  I knew immediately that this was a great organization for me to join.  I immensely enjoy getting involved with organizations that have like-minded professionals that support each other personally and professionally.

What are your goals as a member? To learn and grow from our professional and executive members. I want to utilize my strengths in leadership to support the organization’s mission and vision in empowering women to succeed and lead by being the voice that inspires integrity, equality and leadership in the workplace and the community.   I want to make a difference!

What challenges have you faced? One of the challenges we face as a members of an organization with many type “A” personalities is not always having 100% consensus on your choices or decisions.  Having had the opportunity to Chair the Holiday Party and the Women in Leadership Awards Luncheon, multiple times, I faced this challenge often. Yet, through effective communication and active collaboration with all involved, many times this challenge can be overcome.

As a member, what can you bring to EWPBF? I have a genuine interest in helping others.  I want to inspire the highest standards of professionalism in everything we do.  Through a thoughtful approach to problem solving, effective leadership skills and being a goals oriented individual, I believe this has assisted EWPB in bringing awareness of the organization to our community through our signature events and fundraising activities.

Are there any EWPBF events coming up you’re excited to attend?  I always look forward to the breakfast bunch gatherings in the north end of PB County. I love getting together with members and catching up on what is happing in their lives.  I am also looking forward to the 2018 WILA event.  This time around I will be able to enjoy as an attendee.

Is there a specific memorable moment that stands out to you during your time with EWPBF that made you think, “this is why I volunteer”?  Yes, this past WILA Sponsors Reception.  I was presented the engraved “free to be” vase.  This gesture will always be engraved in my mind and heart. Our founder, Cynthia Allen Gracey, always found a way to make everyone feel appreciated for their contribution to the organization. With her passing earlier this year, EWPB granted her wish in providing me this amazing acknowledgement in recognition of all the support and contributions I made to EWPB.

Is there anything else you’d like to add? Absolutely!  If anyone is looking for a new financial institution to help with deposits, loans or investments, please consider giving me a call.   I provide the same professional and quality standards at work as I do with EWPB.  I’m sure you will be please with my services!
